CARD DESCRIPTION
A figure sits and works diligently to complete a task. We can see by the way he works and his dress that he is a craftsman and highly skilled. Surrounding him are 8 Pentacles – one of which he is working on. Far behind him in the distance is a town.
SYMBOLS
Craftsman
The crafts man is focused on his work. He is skilled and wears the tools of his trade – apron, mallet and chisel.
Eight Pentacles
Six Pentacles are vertically placed on the right of the card. They represent finished products. The pentacles at the feet represent just finished products which may need a little more refining. The final pentacle is currently being worked on by the craftsman.
Town in Background
The town represents where the craftsman comes from. We imagine that he has a home and is well established. Someone with as much focus as this craftsman is sure to be successful and therefore wealthy.

GOLDEN DAWN / QABALA
The Hermetic title for this card is ‘Lord of Prudence’.
On the Tree of Life, the Number Eight cards sit on the Sphiroth Hod which represents Splendor. After the energy from the Divine enters Kether at the top of the Tree of Life, it next flows to Chokhmah. Chokhmah is the place of wisdom. The energy then flows onto Binah which is the energy of understanding. Then the energy leaves this upper triangle of energy (called the Supernal) and flows down to Chesed, the energy of Mercy. Then the energy flows to Gevurah which is a difficult Sphiroth representing severity and possibly suffering. Then the energy flows to Tiferet which is at the center of the Tree of Life. It represents balance and harmony. Next we move to Netzach which is victory and then onto Hod which is splendor. Here we see the Craftsman surrounded by his ‘splendor’. He is prudent and exact on how he works. We can imagine he knows exactly how much money is in his bank account.

EIGHT OF PENTACLES REVERSED
When this card is reversed you are not focusing on what you need to do to be successful. You are spacey or easily distracted (think about the times you get lost on Facebook while on your phone). You begin something but do not complete the task. You know what can help you on your path to success but your ‘money blocks’ are keeping you where you are. You might also just feel currently bored.
Two important questions to consider with a reversed Eight of Pentacles:
If I focus – what are my opportunities?
What are 5 things I can do from today to help me focus on my craft and skills?
