EIGHT OF WANDS POWERWORDS
Dreams become Manifest
QUICK MEANING
The Eight of Wands is a card that indicates that the energy is flowing well. It indicates movement, clear purpose, intent and direction. Whatever you are doing – its working~
TRADITIONAL MEANING
Traditionally this card means swiftness of energy, travel, exploration, immediate action and good energy flow. It can also traditionally indicate messages of love.
CARD DESCRIPTION
We see eight wands in the air. Below sits a lush countryside with water and a house. The skies are clear blue.
SYMBOLS
Eight Wands
The eight wands all point in one direction. There is intent and focus. They also point slightly downwards. To me this indicates the power of manifestation. From the mind and the idea to the material reality. This card often reminds me of the Magician because he stands as a conduit between the sacred above and the world in which we live in. The Magician can create anything he puts his mind to. The eight of wands to me is the energy of intention becoming real and dreams become manifest.
Landscape
Rolling lush fields and healthy landscape. A strong element of earth. There is energy but it is grounded and healthy.
Sky
The sky is clear blue and makes us feel optimistic as we feel the sun on our face. We imagine there is a gentle breeze. The element of air in this card is positive and easy.
Water
We see a broad meandering river. It is flowing well and will reach its destination. We know that the energy of these types of river cut into the landscape due to their power. The eight of wands with this element of water tells me that the energy is powerful.
House
A house is perched on a hill. It reminds us of security and home. The eight of wands energy has a solid foundation to move out into the world.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU EXPLORE THIS CARD MORE
The Eight of Wands is often a confusing card because there are no people in it and people often ask, ‘What do those wands in the sky mean’. On closer inspection if you think about wands as fire and energy then you can start to deduce the meaning. This is actually one of my favorite cards because when I get it I know my plans/actions/creativity is correct and going in the right direction. It is also a very strong travel cards. It might be that you are ready for an adventure. That might be an adventure externally like a fun road trip with friends. It could be an adventure inside by enjoying the process of a hobby.
Do you feel you are in a good space right now?
What creative ideas are you manifesting?
Have you felt gratitude for all the good energies in your life today?
Are you travelling or considering travelling soon?
Are you excited to have an adventure?
GOLDEN DAWN / QABALA
The Hermetic title for this card is ‘Lord of Swiftness’.
On the Tree of Life, the Number Eight cards sit on the Sphiroth Hod which represents Splendor. After the energy from the Divine enters Kether at the top of the Tree of Life, it next flows to Chokhmah. Chokhmah is the place of wisdom. The energy then flows onto Binah which is the energy of understanding. Then the energy leaves this upper triangle of energy (called the Supernal) and flows down to Chesed, the energy of Mercy. Then the energy flows to Gevurah which is a difficult Sphiroth representing severity and possibly suffering. Then the energy flows to Tiferet which is at the center of the Tree of Life. It represents balance and harmony. Next we move to Netzach which is victory and then onto Hod which is splendor. Here we see the energy of splendor and clear fast moving energy.
ASTROLOGICAL
Ruled by the Mercury in Sagittarius
EIGHT OF WANDS REVERSED
When this card is reversed the energy is stagnant or is flowing but very slowly with delays. I often think about a delayed flight. You will get there but it might take longer. It can also mean delayed menstrual cycles or delays to creative projects.
Two important questions to consider with a reversed Eight of Wands:
Do I have control over this stagnant energy and delay?
Can I find some way to cope or change this energy?
Women can sometimes get the Eight of Wands reversed just before their periods when they feel stuck, stagnant and irritable. Once their period comes the card can upright itself because the energy is flowing.
