NINE OF CUPS POWERWORDS
Satisfaction
QUICK MEANING
This card means that our desires have been met, you have gratitude for all the emotional abundance you have and you are satisfied with life.
TRADITIONAL MEANING
Traditionally the Nine of Cups means that wishes have come true. Have yours? If not, this card is also traditionally the wish card – so make one now!
CARD DESCRIPTION
A large man sits on a table/chair with his arms crossed and a very satisfied smile on his face. Behind him on a high podium stand nine cups.
SYMBOLS
Large Man
This man represents abundance – emotional abundance. He is happy and his heart is full.
Body Posture
He sits in a confident body position with legs open which represents being ‘open’ or ‘cocky’. I personally find it strange to see his arms closed as its not a very welcoming posture but the man does not care. His needs are met. He is happy. It can be seen as a selfish card by some but they are usually jealous that they are not feeling his celebration.
Red Hat
The hat represents the heart and emotions and it is on top of his head meaning he is emotionally balanced.
Table / Chair
The man sits on a sturdy wooden supportive structure. This shows his foundations internally are also strong. However he does not sit on cushions so beware that all good feelings come to pass. All emotions are changeable. A lesson to enjoy the ‘NOW’.
Podium
What is behind the podium? What do you think? I feel its wishes granted and it comes with a surprise – nearly always a nice one.
Nine Standing Cups
Nine standing cups of emotional satisfaction. All is well. They stand in an arc and shadow the rainbow that will appear in the Ten of Cups.

GOLDEN DAWN / QABALA
The Hermetic title for this card is ‘Lord of Material Happiness’.
On the Tree of Life, the Number Nine cards sit on the Sphiroth Yesod which represents Foundation. After the energy from the Divine enters Kether at the top of the Tree of Life, it next flows to Chokhmah. Chokhmah is the place of wisdom. The energy then flows onto Binah which is the energy of understanding. Then the energy leaves this upper triangle of energy (called the Supernal) and flows down to Chesed, the energy of Mercy. Then the energy flows to Gevurah which is a difficult Sphiroth representing severity and possibly suffering. Then the energy flows to Tiferet which is at the center of the Tree of Life. It represents balance and harmony. Next we move to Netzach which is victory and then onto Hod which is splendor. Then we move onto Yesod which is Foundation and directly under Tiferet in the middle pillar. It is balanced. It is the place where all the above energies now have the ability to become manifest and real. What we think, we become. More importantly, what we feel we become.
ASTROLOGICAL
Ruled by Jupiter in Pisces
NINE OF CUPS REVERSED
When this card is reversed the card shows a block to emotional satisfaction and fulfillment.
Two important questions to consider with a reversed Nine of Cups:
Are you over indulging and not wanting the good times to be over?
Is your emotional ego getting too big and grandiose?
And a word of warning – especially if you like to indulge in Magick – be careful what you wish for!
