Self Reliance and Prosperity
QUICK MEANING
This card means that you are prosperous or in a stage of independence. You are using your skills and creativity to their best advantage. You are feeling abundant and grateful. You may be striving for financial independence. A great money card to get that indicates good things are coming your way.
TRADITIONAL MEANING
Traditionally the Nine of Pentacles means safety and independence. It shows success and prosperity.
CARD DESCRIPTION
A woman stands in her garden surrounded by her wealth and abundance. Her castle stands in the background. Her clothing is rich and she holds a falcon in her left hand. At her feet a snail crawls while surrounding her are vineyards and pentacles.
SYMBOLS
Woman
This is a self assured confident woman. She needs for nothing. She is independent and self reliant and stands here alone but she does not feel lonely. We sense she is complete inside. Everything she has accomplished surrounds her in its energy and refinery (clothing, hair piece, castle, falcon and pentacles).
Body Posture and Clothing
The woman stands proud but relaxed. She oozes confidence and healthy self esteem. Her clothing is luxurious and indicates wealth and prosperity. The symbols on her dress are flowers but on closer inspection we can see that they are the symbol of the planet Venus which astrologically rules this card.
Greenery and Grapes
The greenery shows abundance and health. The grapes indicate vineyards which are often associated with estates and castles. It is possible that this woman inherited money but she also made good use of it and we can imagine she has a golden finger.
Falcon
The falcon represents refinery and wealth. Often only royalty used falcons. According to Ted Andrews in his book about power and totem animals – ‘Animal Speak’, the falcon teaches you to be patient and recognize opportunities and act upon them only at the correct moment.
Castle
The castle in the background is the home of this wealthy woman. You need to have loads of money to live in a home like this. This women is financially independent.
Mountains
The mountains show that there are always more possibilities and challenges to explore and horizons to meet. This woman is wealthy and satisfied but she enjoys money and loves to make more and enrich her life.
Nine Pentacles
Nine pentacles surround the woman and it feels like a lot of money and wealth. Notice how they are mostly around her feet. This indicates that she is grounded and practical. She does not let her wealth get to her head.
Snail
The snail represents the energy of pentacles in general. Slow energy. Wealth builds over time. A snail is full of self sufficiency (just like the woman). A snail carries their home on their back.
LESSONS ON THIS CARD
I think it is super important that women in the 21st century learn how to become self reliant and sufficient. Not only does it add to our confidence but it also means we become more wealthy and think of all the good things that we can do. . Even if you are married with joint bank accounts it is imperative that you know what is going on with the income, bank accounts and payments. I happen to have a group of She-ro’s (Female Heros) that I follow on a regular basis. They teach me about empowerment, self reliance and independence. I highly recommend you check them out. If you feel there is a mentor / guide that you know feel free to contact me and let me know and I can add them here.

GOLDEN DAWN / QABALA
The Hermetic title for this card is ‘Lord of Material Gain?’.
On the Tree of Life, the Number Nine cards sit on the Sphiroth Yesod which represents Foundation. After the energy from the Divine enters Kether at the top of the Tree of Life, it next flows to Chokhmah. Chokhmah is the place of wisdom. The energy then flows onto Binah which is the energy of understanding. Then the energy leaves this upper triangle of energy (called the Supernal) and flows down to Chesed, the energy of Mercy. Then the energy flows to Gevurah which is a difficult Sphiroth representing severity and possibly suffering. Then the energy flows to Tiferet which is at the center of the Tree of Life. It represents balance and harmony. Next we move to Netzach which is victory and then onto Hod which is splendor. Then we move onto Yesod which is Foundation and directly under Tiferet in the middle pillar. It is balanced. It is the place where all the above energies now have the ability to become manifest and real. What we think, we become. More importantly, what we feel we become. So Yesod and the self reliance and prosperity of the nine of pentacles really suit each other well.

NINE OF PENTACLES REVERSED
When this card is reversed the card tells us that you are not self reliant. You are probably depending on someone else for all your needs and you sacrifice your independence. It can also mean that you have debt or that you do not understand your money.
Two important questions to consider with a reversed Nine of Pentacles:
Do you really understand your money – input and output?
Do you feel responsible for your money or do you rely on others to take care of it for you?
