SEVEN OF PENTACLES POWERWORDS
Evaluation
QUICK MEANING
The Seven of Pentacles is a time for you to stand back and assess where you are in your life, especially in regards to money and finances but it can also be in any other area of your life.
TRADITIONAL MEANING
Traditionally this card means profits gained, money and rewards. It shows someone in a good financial position but with a desire for something ‘more’. A sense of being unfulfilled.
CARD DESCRIPTION
A figure stands and leans quite heavily on their hoe that helped them dig up their harvest. The look on their face is one of fatigue and contemplation. There is a harvest but the man looks a bit worn out. He also looks like he is assessing the harvest and evaluating what to do next. To create a new strategy for the future? To continue as he is? Or to give up and walk away!
SYMBOLS
Figure
The figure represents you standing and assessing your ‘harvest’ and hard work to date. He leans on his hoe and he seems deep in thought and looks fatigued. He does not seem very excited by his bountiful harvest – in fact he only has one pentacle at his feet. The Golden Dawn title for this card is ‘Lord of Success Unfulfilled’. For me, that sums up this card. The man looks unfulfilled and we ask ourselves why that is. If you get this card, what are you feeling unfulfilled about?
Seven Pentacles
There are seven pentacles indicating abundance but only one sits at the mans feet. So even though there feels like a lot of abundance, perhaps the man only has one pentacle to take home. Was it worth the effort?
Hoe
This is a symbol for hard work. Imagine digging in the ground. It takes strength, perseverance and patience. Just like aiming for a goal.
Greenery / Harvest
The harvest shows the reward for all the hard work done up until now.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU EXPLORE THIS CARD MORE
Evaluation is the Power Word for this card and its meaning is fairly straightforward. Stand back, look at where you are and then decide if it is worth it.
I see women get this card when they work and parent and have little money over at the end of the month. They put in huge effort and energy for little rewards. I also see this card when a woman is in a long term relationship – often more than ten years – and she is questioning does she still want to be in it. She is tired and a bit over the whole ‘couple’ package. I also see women get this card where they feel stuck in their job and realize that it is not worth the effort. They have to decide if they want to keep working hard or look elsewhere.
Questions to help you in your evaluating process…
Where am I right now and how do I feel about it?
Where do I want to go?
If I do not know where I want to go what tools do I need to help me understand better?
Is what I am doing now worth the effort?
Am I REALLY on the right path?
What am I planning long term that I need to prepare for now?
What do I need to do now so that the future is successful?
GOLDEN DAWN / QABALA
The Hermetic title for this card is ‘Lord of Success Unfulfilled’
On the Tree of Life, the Number Seven cards sit on the Sphiroth Netzach which represents Victory and is often seen as Illusion also. After the energy from the Divine enters Kether at the top of the Tree of Life, it next flows to Chokhmah. Chokhmah is the place of wisdom. The energy then flows onto Binah which is the energy of understanding. Then the energy leaves this upper triangle of energy (called the Supernal) and flows down to Chesed, the energy of Mercy. Then the energy flows to Gevurah which is a difficult Sphiroth representing severity and possibly suffering. Then the energy flows to Tiferet which is at the center of the Tree of Life. It represents balance and harmony. Next the energy moves to Netzach which represents illusion. What are we really experiencing right now? Is it what we really want?
ASTROLOGICAL
Ruled by Saturn in Taurus.
SEVEN OF PENTACLES REVERSED
When the Seven of Pentacles is reversed there is a lack of results. There seems to be a lot of effort and hardly any reward for it or perhaps even none at all. We may feel lazy and want to give up.
Two important questions to consider with a reversed Seven of Pentacles:
Why are you putting so much effort into something where you get little reward or emotional satisfaction?
Is it time to change tactics or walk away?
Seven of Pentacles reversed means hardship, poverty and perhaps even unemployment. If you get this card you should quickly assess how to get yourself out of the situation you are in and move towards more abundant times.
