FIVE OF WANDS POWERWORDS
Strife!
QUICK MEANING
The Five of Wands means there is strife, conflict and irritation in your life right now.
TRADITIONAL MEANING
Traditionally this card means struggle, conflict, strife, conflict and bad relationships
CARD DESCRIPTION
Five men fight together / against each other with five wooden wands (staffs). From the expressions on their face it is not clear what the outcome will be. Each has their own passion which contends with the others. The shape of the wands resembles a pentagram which gives hope that passion and anger as a force can be used for good and change.
SYMBOLS
Fighting People
The five people fight with their staffs. Their faces show energy and struggle. Note the colors of their clothing. Red = passion. Yellow = ego but also hope. Green = creativity and the possibility for change. The blue indicates the possibility for a higher spiritual outcome to this current struggle. Note their feet are firmly planted on the ground – their ideas are not ethereal but rather firmly rooted and with substance.
Five Wands
The five wands represent the things we are currently struggling with or irritated by. Not necessarily five exact things – but rather a range of issues currently pressing on us.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU EXPLORE THIS CARD MORE
I love this card!!! Actually this week as I pondered on the Five of Wands I felt its energy a lot in me and around me. Even my computer wanted to fight with me!
Many women get this card and its quite common to pop up. Just think about all those things that IRRITATE you. Think about the times you wanted to pull your hair and scream, ‘I have had enough’. With this Five of Wands card you have the option to stay irritated or step back and see what changes you can make to get out of this space. I believe that irritation and anger are simply our way to say that there is something not right. The questions below might help you.
There is often a sense of injustice with this card also. Its not fair! No one listens to me! Why am I in this mess? The questions below might help you understand what is going on.
The Five of Wands can also indicate internal energies that are not balanced. Many women with hormonal issues, PMS and hot flushes get this card. You know those moments where you hate the clothes in your wardrobe, your loved ones super infuriate you and you just need some SPACE. You do not want to admit it but it is probably hormones making everything feel worse. That is the Five of Wands energy. Blocked and explosive energy. If you get this for yourself or a client it is VITAL that you move your body to help this energy. Walk fast, run, jump on the spot, dance. Just shake it out of your system. If left stagnant, this energy can really create imbalance. If my intuition tells me I then recommend the women to go get a health check up with her doctor / naturopath.
Questions to ask about this card to help put you back in the chill zone…
Do I need space right now? Do I need time out/ time alone / time to get away?
What are my needs? What do I really want?
What things are currently making me angry?
Do I think the source of my anger is internal (hormones / body energy / diet) or external?
What things can I actually change?
What things are beyond my ability to change?
Where in my life do I feel stuck?
When I am in the Five of Wands energy, do I hurt others (intentionally or unintentionally)?
Do I need support/advice/help to make changes so I am less irritated and angry?
What things calm me down? Is there a way I can integrate them into my life?
What habits / things do I need to let go of to make my life easier?
The Five of Wands energy can be from the ego but it can also be from imbalance in the body or external factors like an annoying boss. This card is warning you to take heed and look after yourself.
‘If a problem can be solved it will be. If it cannot be solved, there is no use worrying about it’
GOLDEN DAWN / QABALA
The Hermetic title for this card is ‘Lord of Strife’. What a perfect title for this card (apart from the Lord part!)
On the Tree of Life, the Number Five cards sit on the Sphiroth Gevurah which represents severity. After the energy from the Divine enters Kether at the top of the Tree of Life, it next flows to Chokhmah. Chokhmah is the place of wisdom. The energy then flows onto Binah which is the energy of understanding. Then the energy leaves this upper triangle of energy (called the Supernal) and flows down to Chesed, the energy of Mercy. Then the energy flows to Gevurah which is a difficult Sphiroth representing severity and possibly suffering. Therefore the 5’s in the Minor Arcana are always challenging cards.

FIVE OF WANDS REVERSED
When this card is reversed you feel even more blocked and you do not see a way out. You almost feel defeated and certainly overwhelmed.
Two important questions to consider with a reversed Five of Wands:
What one thing can you do today to make your life a little easier? Say no? Cancel something?
What will make you feel good today? Can you go and do it?
